The Sims 3 Is Heading To Consoles October 26

All we have is that trailer, and the promise that it looks like the PC version.

When Brad Shoemaker sent me a trailer announcing the release date for the console versions of EA’s so-popular-that-you-don’t-even-really-have-to-qualify-its-popularity PC game The Sims 3, I was filled with glee. Finally, I thought to myself, a story I can write about and act like a total jerk. I could say, “Who thought bringing The Sims to consoles was a good idea?” and, “Why are they doing this? Who wants to play any of the Sims games on a console?” I would use The Sims 3’s console release as a stepping stone for my own personal gain; to act like an ass and write a funny article as a result. Infinite hits were within my grasp!

In my excitement, I rushed downstairs to the basement, expecting that the Giant Bomb crew would be thrilled with my story pitch, and that I would be greeted with high fives and affectionate chest bumps. I did not expect, however, Ryan to shut me down by saying, “It’s not a big deal.”

“What do you mean?” I replied, surprised at his nonchalant tone. “We’re talking about The Sims. That’s all… it’s all PC stuff.”

“They’ve released Sims games on consoles.” Ryan remarked, in a tone that indicated he would politely answer my question, but he could also punch me in the neck for being so dumb. ”In fact, there are probably more Sims games released across the consoles than there are PC releases.”

“Including expansion packs?” I inquired skeptically.

“Yeah. All of it. Way more console Sims games.”

This is a wisp of a news story. I should have found something else.

I ran upstairs to investigate, and also to avoid being punched in the neck. Sure enough, if you count each individual release, including item packs (but not collector editions), there are 32 Sims games on the PC, and a whopping 42 Sims games on the consoles.

The Sims 3 on consoles isn’t that crazy at all. Instead, it is 100% par for the course of the franchise. I was going to use this story to act like an ass, but had Ryan not spurred me to count up Sims releases, I would be an ass for real. It just goes to show: when you’re writing these kinds of stories, you can’t assume anything. The facts will always punch you in the neck. Research is punch-damental. Or something like that.

Oh, yeah. The Sims 3 is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS on October 26th. That’s it. That’s all we know. EA sent out a trailer, but it reveals nothing about the way the game will be played on any of the announced platforms. Kinda funny trailer, though.
